The Upper Mustang Trek leads you into the hidden world of the ancient Buddhist kingdom of Lo, a culturally preserved region that once formed part of the Tibetan empire. Because of this shared history, Mustang closely resembles Tibet in its culture, language, landscapes, and spiritual traditions.
This trek offers a truly unique Himalayan experience—crossing barren cliffs, desert canyons, and centuries-old trade routes. Throughout the journey, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Nilgiri, and Tibetan ranges. The region’s isolation has allowed its traditions to remain intact, giving trekkers an authentic look at the lifestyle of the Thakali and Tibetan communities.
Your adventure begins with your arrival in Kathmandu, followed by a scenic drive to Pokhara. From Pokhara, you drive to Jomsom and start the trek toward Kagbeni, the gateway to Upper Mustang. Moving along the Kali Gandaki River, the trail passes villages like Chele and Shyangbochen before crossing the Nyi La Pass (4010m) and descending to Ghami. After crossing the Ghami Khola, you continue toward Tsarang.
A gentle ascent to the Lo La Pass (3950m) takes you to the walled city of Lo Manthang, the cultural heart of Mustang. You’ll explore its ancient monasteries—Jampa, Thubchen, and Chode Gompas—and witness the region’s rich Buddhist heritage.
The return route retraces through Dhakmar, Ghiling, and Chhuksang before reaching Jomsom, from where you fly back to Pokhara and drive to Kathmandu to conclude your journey.
