Overview

The Kathmandu Chisapani Nagarkot Dhulikhel Hiking is a 6-day adventure exploring the lush hills and traditional villages around the Kathmandu Valley. This trail offers panoramic views of the valley and the majestic Himalayas from hilltops like Nagarkot and Dhulikhel.

The journey begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal, followed by a 4-hour hike to Chisapani, known for its crisp climate and views of the Langtang Himalayan range. The next day, a gradual uphill trek leads to Nagarkot, where early risers can witness the breathtaking sunrise over peaks stretching from Dhaulagiri to Mount Everest (8848m). From Nagarkot, the trail continues southeast to Dhulikhel, offering serene village paths and spectacular mountain vistas. The trek concludes with a short drive back to Kathmandu.

Ideal for hiking enthusiasts, this trail can be done year-round, with autumn and spring being the best seasons for clear views and pleasant weather.

Day 1:Arrival in Kathmandu

Today, you arrive at the busy capital city of Kathmandu as you land in Tribhuvan International Airport. Here, a company representative will greet you and take you to your hotel. There are no scheduled events or activities for today so once you settle in, feel free to explore around the local area and do some shopping for the hike again. Overnight in Kathmandu.

  • Maximum Altitude1300m

From Kathmandu, you head to a town at the city’s edge after breakfast, Sundarijal. From here, it’s a 4-hour hike up to Chisapani. The hike begins amidst paddy and mustard fields, and continues on the level plains for about an hour. Then, we slowly start to pick up altitude. We make our way up scaling the forested hills up into a more elevated trail and arrive in Chisapani. If the weather is good, you get sunset view over distant surrounding Himalayas.   • Maximum Altitude1350m

We make our way to Nagarkot after catching a sunrise view from Chisapani. The hike is long and we pass through many settlements. After 6-7 hours of hiking, the settlements come more frequent in between as we near the famous Hill Station of Nagarkot. From here on a clear day, you will notice a wide panoramic view of the surrounding mountains. Watch the sunset view from the view tower of Nagarkot before calling it a night. Overnight in Nagarkot.

If you would like, you can wake up early for a sunrise view from your hotel before heading towards the final destination, Dhulikhel. From Nagarkot, we gradually descend through a forested trail that leads us to the hill station of Dhulikhel. Dhulikhel also provides distant mountain view of mostly the Langtang, Gaurishankar, and Jugal Himalayan ranges. Overnight in Dhulikhel.

  • Maximum Altitude1550m

The hike has come to an end. From Dhulikhel, it's a short and pleasant drive back to Kathmandu. Once you are back you are free to explore the main city, and do some souvenir shopping in Thamel. In the evening, the company will organize a farewell dinner for you. Overnight in Kathmandu.
