Overview

Kathmandu Rara Motorcycle Tour is a unique adventure that entails riding through a diverse array of landscapes. The tour offers incredible serenity while, further in the background, is the distant view of the majestic mountains. The tour settles at Rara Lake within the Rara National Park. The lake is beautiful, but the route to the lake offers a different experience in itself. The various settlements display the mountainous lifestyle while the rough and challenging terrain makes for a thrilling and exciting ride.


The Kathmandu-Rara-Kathmandu Motorcycle Tour is 10 days long and it begins with your arrival in Kathmandu. On the second day, you leave the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu as you enter the hilly switchbacks. As you snake along the Prithvi Highway alongside Trishuli River, the road eventually splits and you move south into the Terai region towards Butwal. The flat roads in Terai go through fields of mustards and paddies. It is along these level roads you have a comfortable ride soaking in the surroundings to Butwal. From Butwal, the trail continues through forested areas with settlements becoming smaller until you arrive in Surkhet. From Surkhet, it’s a climb back into the hills and higher to the beautiful valley of Sinja a tough but rewarding journey. Next, you will push on to the Rara National Park checkpoint and leave your bikes behind and start trekking inside the national park to reach Rara Lake. You will spend two days in Rara. The first day is just for you to relax and rest from the long ride. On the second day, we explore and make our way to the viewpoint at Murma, about 3 hours of hiking. On the way back, we take a slightly diverted route and ride through Khalanga Bazaar in Jumla and then to Surkhet the next day. You are then back on the flat highways that take you back to Kathmandu through Chitwan.

Day 1:Arrival in Kathmandu

Once you arrive in Tribhuvan International Airport of Kathmandu you will meet our company representative. From here, you will be escorted to a warm and cozy hotel. Once you are at the hotel, the technicalities of the ride will be explained to you. You will be notified about the knowhow of Nepali roads and be introduced to your motorbike.

After leaving the noisy capital through a series of winding roads up and down the passes, you will make your way down to the Chitwan. From here, you will be traveling along the roads of the Terai, which run level and uniformly straight through many villages. You can witness the local agrarian lifestyle as you make your way to Butwal, where you will stay for the night.

    The ride continues along the comforts of the Terai roads. The road is a perfect opportunity for you to warm up and relax on your bike. You can soak in the surrounding beautiful landscape of Terai often overshadowed by the hills and mountains. It will also help you warm up for the tougher days ahead. You will cruise slowly through Banke and Bardia National Park, and Kohalpur before heading towards Surkhet.

      You will be travelling through off roads route beside the shimmering blue water of Karnali River crossing small settlements. You will travel through Manma to Nagma before finally arriving at Sinja, a green lush valley amongst the dry jagged rocky hills of the region. Sinja is an ancient village of great historical importance as some of the earliest written scriptures of Nepali language were found here.

        Today, we climb up in altitude as we make our way to premise of Rara National Park. As the conserved area nears, the settlements thin our giving the area an untouched feel. You park your bike at a cottage nearby Ghorosingha, at the park entrance. From here, you hike uphill 1.5 hours along the hill that lead to the bank of Rara Lake.

          After days of stiff riding you can stretch and exercise your limbs as you tour along the lake's bank, which spans 13 km. You can rest in hammocks along the river bank, or take upon a different riding experience on horseback as you slowly explore the Lake’s surroundings. Perhaps the most immersive experience is to take a boat ride on the shimmering waters of Rara, where you can truly experience the captivating aura the lake holds.

            Today is another exploration day around Rara. You can travel up to the viewpoint at Murma, about 3 hrs of hiking. From here, you can see the entire lake and a clear view of the distant dry hills and mountain ranges. If you are lucky, you may see Rara Lake changing colors, which it is known to do at different parts of the day. In the afternoon, you may also partake on horseback riding.

              We head south east, leaving Rara Lake behind. We pass by the settlements of Malikabota and Sani Gaon, on a rough hilly road surrounded by sheer cliffs. As you descend, more hills start to show and the area becomes more forested. Khalanga Bazaar is from where the black-topped road begins, and also houses a bustling market.

                The ride to Surkhet from Khalanga begins along a wide river basin of Karnali river branch. We need to cross the hilly terrain before arriving back down to Surkhet as the sheer hill face ad jagged outcrops dominate our surroundings. At times, the river moves out of sight as we ride so high above. It is a thrilling and rewarding ride, but take it easy today. It is a long day.

                  You hop back on the bike, and this time the leveled roads of Terai beckon you. You can re-energize today, as the road is not much of a hassle. The flat smooth road all the way to Chitwan is feel refreshing after riding through the rough terrain to Rara. At Chitwan, you can indulge in light exploration around the city.

                    You climb back through the screwdriver like roads, up into the hills outside the Kathmandu valley. After climbing the roads of Nagdhunga and crossing Thankot, you arrive back into the noisy city, but with calming memories of what you have just experienced. You can shop gifts and souvenirs as you prepare to exit the nation.

                      Visit Lhasa wishes the best for your future endeavors. You will hand over your bikes, and our representative will accompany you to the Tribhuvan International Airport for your scheduled flight.
