Overview

Kathmandu is a city of temples and ancient culture. In recent years, the city also offers a lot to adventure enthusiasts, especially climbers. One of the most entertaining sites is the Hattiban Rock Climbing Spot. Hattiban is a beautiful town which is located almost 26 km from the capital city, Kathmandu. On the way up you will also get a chance to visit Dakshinkali Temple, a sacred temple to Hindu people. The trip is the best fit for those who want to test their overall climbing skills.

Hattiban Rock Climbing is located an hour drive away from Kathmandu. The climbing site is just 20 minutes of walk away from the main road. A local guide will lead you to Samye Monastery, (also known as Rigon Tashi Choeling Monastery) from there you should be able to see a steep trail that leads toward the forest. Hike through the lush jungle will further take you to the rock climbing destination. It is a 6a to 7a grade and has about 8-10 properly bolted routes. It’s a perfect fit for professional climbers who want to enjoy top-level rock climbing. During winter, the sunlight falls directly on the cliff all day long, making it look extremely beautiful. The climb can also be done during the spring and autumn seasons. However, summer may be a bit hot, and with monsoons, the cliff might be too slippery and not safe for climbing. So, it is not recommended. If it’s your first time climbing here then, it is better to come with a local climber who knows about the cliff and can offer some good information and pointers.
