Ghalegaon Homestay Trek is a short 7-day trek to a scenic village in Lamjung. The Ghalegaon has situated 12.5km to the northeast of Pokhara. It is an easy trek to learn about the Gurung ethnic group and their culture.

Trekkers can also enjoy the scenery of the Annapurna range on the horizon. Get ready to immerse yourself in the beauty of the touristy village.

The Ghalegaon Homestay Trek explores villages like Pasagaon and Nandighar. Gurung and Ghale people reside in all these villages. Above all, they have their own language, food, and culture.

As a result of the homestay, trekkers can easily enjoy the day-to-day activities of the locals.

Firstly, the trip starts with a drive to Besisahar from Kathmandu. Ghalegaon is not far off and is easily reachable. Ghalegaon is located at the foot of the Lamjung Himal (6983m).

The vast village has a lot of activities to offer. The Gurung locals in the village are a welcoming bunch. They greet you in their local clothing and rituals. Similarly, their local food, dances, and rituals are equally enjoyable as well.

Moreover, the Gurung Museum in the village has cultural and historical items of the Gurung community.

Likewise, apart from the rich culture, the Ghalegaon Homestay Trek offers amazing scenic views. The Annapurna range, Hiunchuli (6441m), Mt. Fish Tail (6997m), etc. cover the scenery. While you relish nature and culture, you will enjoy the trek even more.

Day 1:Arrive in Kathmandu

The journey begins with your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Here, our company representative will receive you and take you to the hotel. After you freshen up, you can explore some of the Newari heritage.

Today we explore the world heritage sites around Kathmandu beginning with a visit to Swayambhunath Temple. This Buddhist heritage boasts a great view of the Kathmandu Valley along with a serene aroma. Next, we head to Kathmandu Durbar Square and enjoy the history and culture of the valley. Then, we drive to the Hindu temple of Pashupatinath and witness the Hindu shrines and rituals. As we near the end of our tour around Kathmandu Valley, we settle at Boudhanath, the largest Buddhist stupa in the country.

Making our way out of Kathmandu, we set off through on the Prithvi Highway enjoying the pleasant hilly landscapes. Accompanied by gorgeous rivers, for the most part, the journey heads alongside the Trishuli River and then the Marsayangdi River reaching the town of Besisahar. The final stretch of the journey takes us through the forested trail to Ghale Gaon.

Today, we take time off to enjoy the hamlet of Ghale Gaon as we tour some of the major attractions of the hamlet. Boasting stunning Himalayan views of the Annapurna Range, the hilly hamlet hosts an equally beautiful Tea garden. Enjoying the tranquil atmosphere in the garden, we descend towards the Gurung museum inside the village premises which shows the culture, history, and way of life of the locals. We also take time to tour around the village itself looking at local products and the day-to-day life of the people.

Making our way away from Ghale Gaon, we begin our ascent towards Dashthar Danda at the top of which lies the hamlet of Ghan Pokhara. Another great option for a homestay, the village falls north of the Lamjung district and boasts stunning views of both Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayan ranges. Continuing through the lush green forests, the final stretch of the trek takes us down towards Khudi.

On the final day of the journey and we make our way back to the capital city of Kathmandu. Exiting the hamlet of Khudi we make our way back to Besisahar before setting off alongside the Marsayangdi River. Guided by Hilly landscapes alongside the Trishuli River, we make our way back to the Kathmandu Valley. Reaching Kathmandu, we head to the hotel where a lovely farewell dinner awaits us.

Useful Info

The maximum altitude on the trek is 2150 meters. The Ghalegaon Homestay Trek is best from March to May due to clear skies, longer days, and beautiful trails. The trek is easy and can be done by people with average physical abilities.
