The Gosainkunda Lake Trek is a spiritually enriching and scenic journey that combines natural beauty with cultural devotion. Nestled in the Langtang National Park, Gosainkunda Lake (4,380m) is a sacred pilgrimage site for both Hindu and Buddhist devotees, attracting thousands of pilgrims every year — especially during Janai Purnima.
The trek offers a stunning blend of alpine landscapes, lush forests, and mountain vistas of the Langtang Range, Ganesh Himal (7,422m), Gaurishankar (7,134m), Jugal Himal, and Numbur Himal. As you ascend through oak, pine, and rhododendron forests, the serene beauty of the Helambu Valley unfolds around you.
Your 11-day Gosainkunda Lake Trek begins in Kathmandu with a scenic drive to Sundarijal. From here, the adventure starts as you trek through farmlands and forests to Chisapani, Kutumsang, and Thadepati. The trail gradually rises to Lauribina Pass (4,610m), where breathtaking mountain panoramas accompany you before descending to the sacred lakes.
The area hosts several glacial lakes, including Saraswati Kunda, Bhairab Kunda, and the revered Gosainkunda — each holding deep religious significance. Pilgrims believe the lake was formed by Lord Shiva’s trident and that bathing in its icy waters cleanses one’s sins.
After exploring Gosainkunda, you’ll trek back through Shin Gompa, an ancient monastery known for its peaceful surroundings and yak cheese. The journey is enriched with sightings of unique Himalayan wildlife such as the red panda and snow leopard, as well as the diverse flora of the Langtang region.
The trek is moderate in difficulty, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced trekkers who wish to combine adventure with spirituality.
At Eternal Himalaya, we design your Gosainkunda Lake Trek with expert guides, comfortable lodges, and customizable itineraries to match your pace and preference. Whether you seek a spiritual retreat or a Himalayan adventure, this trek offers the perfect balance of both.
