The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek takes you deep into eastern Nepal, leading you to the base camp of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,586m), the world’s third-highest peak. This remote Himalayan journey blends towering mountain scenery with the rich cultural heritage of the Limbu and Tibetan communities who call this region home. The trek also includes a visit to the beautiful and less-explored Yalung Base Camp.
Following off-the-beaten trails, the route offers dramatic views of snow-covered summits and pristine landscapes. Trekkers also explore the ancient Ramtang and Oktang Monasteries, gaining insight into the spiritual and traditional lifestyle of the highland residents.
Your adventure begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Bhadrapur, followed by a drive to Taplejung, the starting point of the trek. From Taplejung, the trail gradually ascends toward Lalikharka and continues to Tortong along the serene Amji River. The next stop is Cheram, where an acclimatization day prepares you for higher altitudes.
From Cheram, the route leads to Yalung Base Camp via Ramche before returning to Cheram for a second night. The trek then crosses the Selele La Pass (4,480m) to reach the picturesque village of Ghunsa. Continuing north, you trek through Kambachen to Lhonak, and eventually arrive at Kanchenjunga Base Camp (Pangpema) — the highlight of the journey.
After spending time at Pangpema, the descent follows through Chirwa and Phurumbu before concluding at Suketar, where you board a short flight back to Kathmandu. The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is an unforgettable blend of rugged wilderness, Himalayan grandeur, and authentic cultural encounters.
